Kurmasana-Tortoise PoseThe Sanskrit word “Kurma” means “tortoise”. In this asana the body takes on the shape of a tortoise. Therefore, the name of this asana is Kurmasana.

Technique:

Sit comfortably on a carpet or blanket. Stretch your legs forward. Now bend both the legs at the knee and lift them a little. Then pushing both hands under the legs take them behind the waist. Let both your hands clasp each other. After exhaling, place the head on the ground and come to the final position. Do not inhale. (Bahya Kumbhaka) Do this asanaa as long as you can do it comfortably. After inhaling, come to the former position. Relax in Shavasana.

The practice of Kurmasana cures diabetes and diseases of stomach. This also helps reduce obesity.
