Supta Vajrasana -SleepingThunderbolt PoseThe Sanskrit word “Supta” means “sleeping”. In this asana, after doing Vajra asana one lays himself down on his back. Therefore this asana is called Supta Vajrasan.

Technique:

Sit on a blanket or carpet in Vajrasan. Now get up on your knees. Then bend a little with legs spread apart as shown. By doing this you can now sit on the ground instead of sitting on your heels.When seated on the ground the entire portion from the knees up to the toes should be touching the ground. Bring both the knees together or keep them a little apart. Keep both hands on both ankles or heels, put the left elbow on the ground first and then the right. Slowly put the backside of the head on the ground. Now fold both hands and keep them below your head like a pillow. Breathing should be normal. This is the final stage of this Asan. Hold on comfortably as long as possible. Then come to the former position with the help of your elbows. Then straighten the legs and relax in Shavasan.

Supta Vajrasana is good for the feet, the stomach and the chest. Diseases related to the chest, lungs, neck waist and buttocks can be cured by the regular practice of this Asan. It has a beneficial effect on the intestines and reproductive organs both in males and females. It is good for all feminine complaints.
