The Sanskrit word “Shalabha” means ‘locust’. In this asana, the body takes on the shape of a locust. Therefore, the name of this asana is Shalabhasana.
Technique:
Lie straight on your stomach on a carpet or blanket. The heels should face upwards. Keep your palms facing upwards underneath your thighs. Place your chin on the ground and lift your nose and head slightly.
Hold your breath and raise both your legs by applying pressure on your arms, hands and chest. The legs should be together and knees should not bend Raise your body upto the navel. Hold this position as long as you comfortably can. In the beginning a two seconds is enough. Lastly exhale and come back to the former position. Relax and take rest. When you start it is enough to do it once or twice. Later you can increase it upto 7 times.

Shalabhasana makes the legs strong and beautiful. The small and large intestines are also strengthened. It helps cure diseases of the stomach, liver and intestines. Lungs become strong. The spinal column becomes strong and flexible. It gives relief in cases of Hernia and diabetes.
