Baddha Padmasana -  Locked Lotus PoseThe Sanskrit word “Baddh” means “bound”. After doing the Padmasana, hands are bound at the back. Therefore it is called Baddh Padmasan.

Technique:

Sit peacefully in Padmasana on a carpet or double folded blanket. The heels should touch the lower portion of the abdomen. Now taking tV left arm behind the back, catch the left toe of the left leg. Then similarly taking the right arm behind the back catch the right toe of the right leg. Now keep the waist, spinal column and neck straight. Keep your eyes either open or closed. Let the mind be free of thoughts, and breathing normal. This is the final stage of this asana. Sit comfortably as long as possible. Do not force yourself to sit for a longer period.

Note:

This is one of the difficult asanas, expecially for fat people or those who have a paunch. Such people should be patient and determined and practise daily in order to be successful.

This asana makes people strong. It gives them stamina and broadens their chests. By its practice, any pain in the hands, neck, shoulder should vanish. It is also helpful for sciatica patients. This is the best asana for those who have to work regularly, sitting on a chair. This asana favourably influences the heart, lungs, liver, spleen and other digestive organs. It increases circulation of blood, strengthens the breasts of females and helps lactation.
