The Sanskrit word “Kona” means an ‘angle’. While in this asana, the body becomes angular. Therefore, this asana is called Konasana.
Technique:
Stand straight on a blanket or carpet and plant your feet about two feet apart. Keep your right foot firm on the ground and turn the left foot left. Inhale and bend your left knee. Now hold the middle of your left foot with your left hand. Lift your right arm and bring it parallel to your right ear and stretch your body from the right toe to the tips of your right fingers. Come to the your right thumb.
This is the final stage of this asana. In the beginning doing it for a few seconds is enough. You should do it with one leg at a time. When you have done it with both legs one after the other the asana can be said to be complete. Gradually, you can do it four or five times
Note:
People, with a weak heart can do this asana while lying down.
Benefits:
Aches and pains of the back, waist, shoulder, neck, elbow, thighs and legs are cured by this asana. Torso is strengthened and laziness vanishes.
