Garbhasana

GarbhasanaThe Sanskrit word “Garbha” means “foetus”.
During the performance of this asana, the body takes on the shape of a foetus. Therefore, this asana is called Garbhasan.

Technique:

Sit on a carpet or blanket stretching your legs forward. Do the Padmasana and then like Kukkutasana take out your hands through the gaps between thighs and calf-muscles. Slowly take out the elbows. Hold the weight of your body on your buttocks. Hold the left ear with your left hand and right ear with your right hand. This is the final stage of this asana. During this asana, exhalation and inhalation should be normal. In the beginning, it is enough to do this asana for 5 to 10 seconds. Gradually the time can be increased. It can be practised up to 5 times.

Benefits:

This asana has the same benefits as that of Padmasana and Kukkutasan. The thighs, buttocks, calf-muscles and neck become strong and healthy. It is also beneficial in cases of Hernia and painful Menstruation.
